Lofts and roof spaces are becoming essential spaces in family homes for space and storage solutions. However, it’s essential that this space has a proper structure, boarding or insulation solution , which is where most DIY boarding falls down.
Boards laid straight onto the joists squash 270mm of insulation down to the depth of a joist, and the heat you paid to keep in starts leaving again. We fit a raised system instead: legs or battens lift the deck above the insulation, so the wool stays at full depth and air can still move through the loft.
We plan the layout around what you actually need , a walkway to the tank, a boarded bay by the hatch, or the whole floor decked out , and we’ll be straight with you about where the roof structure won’t allow it. Boarding pairs naturally with a loft ladder and wider hatch, and most customers have both done in one visit.

It’s cheaper on the day and it costs you every winter after. Compressed insulation loses most of its value, and a sealed-up loft with no airflow is how condensation and damp timbers start. A raised system costs a little more and does the job properly , which is the only way we’ll fit it.
